Ixcan People are grateful for presence of Cuban doctors in Guatemala

Guatemala, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) The Social Intercultural Movement of the People of Ixcan, Quiche, on Thursday expressed deep gratitude and support for the Cuban Medical Brigade (CMB) that is attending to the communities that have been forgotten by the Guatemalan State.

Organizations, community authorities and indigenous leaders joined the shows of solidarity with Cuba’s medical collaboration in Guatemala, which is running the risk of being cancelled amid a campaign against its humanistic and selfless scope.

In a communiqué to which Prensa Latina had access, the Movement noted the benefits of having 12 Cuban doctors of different specialties in the municipality, and the impact of programs such as Operation Miracle (free eye surgeries to eradicate cataracts).

The text also acknowledges the opportunity of having nine doctors from the Ixcan people who graduated in Cuba.

‘We encourage the Army of White Robes to continue their solidarity work, following the principles of the Cuban Revolution and knowing that they enjoy the support of the Guatemalan people,’ the Movement said in the communiqué.
