Rome, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) The Center for Research and Development for Democracy/International Legal Intervention Group (CRED/GIGI) condemned here on Tuesday a maneuver against Cuba by European parliamentarians.
In a communiqué, the academic institution censured the attempt by regional legislators to include in the agenda an item on the ‘Political Situation and Human Rights in Cuba,’ in ‘flagrant contradiction with the principle of non-intervention’ and the respect for the self-determination of the Cuban people.
Cooperation with Cuba is of essential importance today, also in the light of the fundamental contribution made by that country to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular through the medical brigades that have worked successfully also in Italy, the statement referred.
The entity’s members also highlighted Cuba’s progress in the development of ‘effective vaccines,’ which it valued as ‘an important counterweight to the excessive power of the chemical-pharmaceutical multinationals.’
CRED/GIGI invited the European Parliament, as well as the Italian Parliament, to ‘unreservedly reiterate their commitment to the immediate elimination of the unfair sanctions measures adopted by the US administrations against Cuba.’
In addition to ‘the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European States, which will allow further progress towards the achievement of universal goals in mutual respect for the sovereignty of all those involved,’ they noted.
