International Seminar for Peace will be held in Cuba

Havana, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Amid a turbulent world panorama, pacifists from around the world will celebrate the 6th International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases from May 4-6 in Cuba, which transpired here.

In a press conference, Silvio Platero, president of the Cuban Movement for Peace, explained the details of the meeting to be held in the eastern province of Guantánamo, territory where the oldest military base of the United States is illegally located outside its country.

The event will bring together more than 200 delegates from at least 20 countries, who will demand the elimination of enclaves and foreign military installations around the world and will be a favorable space to strengthen the Global Coalition against the United States Military Bases and NATO approved in Dublin, Ireland, said the official.

Platero announced that as part of the actions of the Seminar will be officially constituted on February 23 as the ‘World Day for Peace and against Foreign Military Bases’.

In the municipality of Caimanera, where the illegal military enclave is located, anti-war activists and friends of Cuba will demand their return and demand the closure of the prison located there since 2006 and turned into a torture center for alleged terrorists.

Likewise, he said, the importance and full validity of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, approved by all the Heads of State and Government of the Region meeting in Havana in January 2014, during the II Summit of CELAC will be reiterated.
