Matanzas, Cuba, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) The main objective of the 3rd International Meeting Miguel Failde in Memoriam, from March 30th to April 2nd, will be the promotion of danzon, considered Cuban national dance.
This year the event is dedicated to the 325th anniversary of the city of Matanzas and the 5th anniversary of the declaration of danzon as intangible heritage of Cuba, said the call of the event issued today.
The program of the event includes lectures, the dance competition Ricardo Benedit Varela and a composition contest, as well as a Mexican performance of danzon.
The event will grant for the first time the Miguel Failde honorary award, to recognize the work of important figures and institutions that yield significant results in the promotion of danzon.
A performance of danzon by children will take place, also for the first time, with a broad representation of the western province of Matanzas.
The main venues of the event are located in Matanzas, they include the Jose White concert hall, Parque de la Libertad, Centro Terrazas del Bahia and the Pedro Esquerre Art Gallery.
The program includes the performance of important figures and groups such as singer Beatriz Marquez, researcher Jesus Gomez Cairo and director Jose Loyola leading his group ‘Charanga de oro’, amid others.
