International Congress on Orthopedics and Traumatology Ends in Cuba

Varadero, Cuba, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The 27th International Congress on Orthopedics and Traumatology and the 1st Cuban Congress on External Fixation will conclude on Saturday in this resort, where awards will be granted to outstanding works and exhibitors.

Dr. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambras, with a historic review of orthopedics in Cuba, and Juan Luis Vidal Ramos, with a lecture on the contributions to the specialized development throughout these 27 meetings, will participate in the closing ceremony of the two forums.

The events, which began on September 27, were held at the Plaza America Conference Center, in this tourist resort on the north coast of Matanzas province, 140 kilometers northeast of Havana.

Advances in External Fixation, Deformities, Current issues in arthroscopy, Complex hip disorders in adult, and Injuries in high-performance athletes were some of the issues debated at the congresses.

Other topics for debate were Infections in Orthopedics and Traumatology, and latest news in Orthopedics.

Roundtable discussions, papers, poster presentations in traditional and digital formats, the screening of scientific videos about external fixators and an exhibition of products from 20 firms were also part of the meetings’ agendas.

The organizing committee confirmed the participation of 300 specialists, including 120 from 22 nations such as Mexico, the United States, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bolivia, China and Spain.

A Cuba-U.S. Pre-Congress Symposium, coordinated by Dr. Alvarez Cambras and U.S. Professors William Stetson and John Feagin, was held during the 27th edition of the congress.
