Immigrant orgs in US demand to improve relations with Cuba

Washington, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Latin American immigrant organizations in the United States on Wednesday demanded actions by the Government of President Joe Biden to restore relations with Cuba.

A statement by the Alianza Martiana (Marti’s Alliance) Coalition in Miami, which brings together several groups, recalled this Wednesday the 126th anniversary of the resumption by Cubans of independence wars.

Cuba, 126 years after the beginning of the last war from Spain’s independence, continues to be besieged by the enemies of its independence, sovereignty and fundamental freedoms, the text stated.

The Cuban people continue to be a victim of the genocidal blockade policy by the United States Government, the solidarity groups said.

Despite the indications and statements that encourage the feeling of justice and equity to restore relations between both peoples and Governments based on mutual respect by the Joe Biden Administration, still more than a month after he took power, nothing has been done, they stressed.

Those organizations recalled that despite a sector of Cubans and Cuban Americans gave their vote in the last presidential elections to Donald Trump, many thousands more expressed their confidence in Joe Biden.

Without ignoring the challenges the Biden administration is facing, among them the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, it is even more pressing for the Cuban people to begin ending the attrition warfare policy implemented against the island by the Trump administration, the solidarity groups stressed.
