Havana, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) If the US president, Donald Trump, really wanted to support the people of #Cuba, he would lift the genocidal blockade, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.

‘… He would have to lift the genocidal blockade, resume prohibited flights and grant visas to Cubans. He would restore the freedom to travel to Cuba for Americans’, Rodríguez continued in his Twitter account in response to Trump’s statements on Cuba last night in State of the Union speech.

Meanwhile, the director general of the United States Office at the Foreign Ministry, Carlos Fernández de Cossio, also stated on Twitter that Washington seeks to take advantage of its immense and asymmetrical power to cause Cuba’s economic collapse.

Such actions, he added, constitute a sickly dread at the possibility that a small Caribbean nation can show economic and social achievements if it is allowed to live in peace.

Trump said in the annual address on the State of the Union before the two chambers of Congress and guests, the third of his term, that once again his country defends freedom in the Western Hemisphere.

The president defended his government’s reversal of the rapprochement with Cuba initiated by the previous administration of Barack Obama (2009-2017), which he described as a failed policy; however, according to surveys, most Americans support the development of better bilateral ties.

His interference efforts also included Venezuela and Nicaragua.
