Higher Education Projects Strengthen Ties between Russia and Cuba

Guantanamo, Cuba, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) The short-term achievement of several cooperation projects between Cuba and Russia in higher education strengthens ties between the two nations, the rector of the University of Guantanamo (UG), Alberto Turro, stated.

The academic told Prensa Latina that during the 3rd Forum of Rectors of Russian and Ibero-American Universities and the 4th Russia-Cuba Rectors’ Forum, both held recently in Moscow, collaboration agreements were signed with the Lomonosov State University of Food Production (MGUPP) and the Southern Federal University.

As a more immediate result, one of the teachers from the higher education center in Guantanamo will give a postgraduate course on Latin American History.

In addition, several MGUPP professors will teach next month about the quality standards for management and consumption in Guantanamo, the rector said.

Another of the fields in which relations between universities from the two nations are fostered is culture, he stressed. For this purpose, a cultural UG delegation will visit the Omsk F.M. Dostoyevki State University in February 2019 to present a program that includes the most diverse artistic expressions from the territory.

The rector told Prensa Latina that the university is now working to approve several international projects conceived by the Faculty of Early Childhood Education, the Agricultural and Forestry Faculty, the Economic and Business Sciences Faculty, as well as analogous initiatives by the Institutional Communication and Local Development departments.
