Twenty contestants will participate in the eighth edition of the International Competition Jojazz will be held that happen in Havana from 19 to 22 November. On this occasion, the event suggests opportunities and great prizes for the winners.
Almost twenty years after its first edition, Jojazz maintains its main objective: to encourage the creation and interpretation in young jazz musicians who had no other space to display their work outside the International Jazz Plaza Festival.
The composition and performance are the two main categories of competition, dedicated in 2015 to jazz masters of all time, some of whom are members of the jury responsible for choosing the winners.
The participants are mostly students of conservatories and art schools of Cuba, Havana, mainly, and in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and Camaguey, who will share sessions with students from the United States invited to the festival, as noted Prensa Latina news agency.
Cuban Cesar Lopez, Alexis Bosch, Joaquín Betancourt, Kelvin Barreto, Alejandro Falcon, Julito Padrón and the composer and pianist Juan Piñera are some of the figures that make up the jury.
There are several surprises that will receive the participants; one of them is the possibility that gives the Cuban Association of Musical Copyright (ACDAM) to enter the works of the contestants.
Moreover, the Abdala recording studios recorded the performance of the first places in each category. Similarly they will be presented for the first time, a cash prize (three thousand Mexican pesos for the first prize, two thousand pesos MN for the second thousand pesos MN for the third).
The venue of the contest will be Tito Junco Hall in Bertolt Brecht Cultural Complex, which will host both days of competition as concerts from 8:30 pm.
For the opening is planned the presentation of the Young Jazz Band of Joaquin Betancourt is planned; Maracujazz group from Camaguey, the most awarded of the last year and Salvaje Trio of Bobby Carcasses. The concert of November 22nd will be conducted by 22 awarded young; both in composition and interpretation.
