Germany rejects US blockade imposed on Cuba

Berlin, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) Germany rejects the application of extraterritorial sanctions, said the spokesman for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Christofer Burger, referring to the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

Asked about Germany’s position in relation to Washington’s actions against Cuba, Burger assured that Angela Merkel’s administration opposes the approval of measures of this type against any country.

German artists and academics launched on June 23rd of this year an initiative to demand the end of the US blockade and urge the German government to work so that, during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, the community alliance manifests itself against said genocidal policy.

Published on the change.org online platform, the petition has the support of more than 50 thousand personalities of culture and science, former ministers, sociologists, businessmen, philanthropists, historians and professors of International Law, among many other sectors.

In addition to demanding the end of the blockade, the initiative denounces the attempts of the United States to subdue Cuba and the pressure exerted by the Donald Trump administration on several countries to reject the help of the Cuban medical brigades.
