Paris, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) association and island entities are promoting a project for the psychosocial and cultural development of vulnerable people in the Historic Center of Havana, the French organization said today.
The initiative aims to support children with delayed mental development and elderly residents in the area of the Cuban capital declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
According to the information provided to Prensa Latina by CubaCoop, its counterpart and technical executor is the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.
The French association contributes 20 thousand Euros, in a project that is added to the dozens of actions of social benefit materialized with its participation in the last 25 years in various provinces of the island
Speaking to Prensa Latina, the organization’s president, Victor Fernandez, reiterated his commitment to concrete support for Cuba in the face of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on it by the United States for 60 years.
Our proposal is to work with the island on development projects tailored to its current needs, to expand political to economic solidarity, he said.
Among the recent initiatives supported by CubaCoop, those aimed at improving water quality in the communities of Camagüey and the implementation of educational and cultural plans in Cienfuegos stand out.
The association is part of the campaign promoted in France to advocate for the delivery of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve medical brigades, for their presence in dozens of countries hit by Covid-19.
CubaCoop’s solidarity with the largest of the Antilles was also felt during these days of pain after the death of the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal.
Regarding the death of the intellectual, parliamentarian and architect of the restoration of the Historic Center of the Cuban capital, he described his work as monumental and his work as indefatigable.
Leal accumulated an impressive list of honors and recognitions, among them the highest distinction awarded by France, of which he was a great friend, the Order of the Legion of Honor, he stressed.
