By Luisa Maria Gonzalez Paris, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) Fidel Castro has been a symbol of resistance and struggle for independence of Cuba and all Latin America, Jean Mendelson, the former French ambassador to Cuba, said today.
‘From my viewpoint as a foreigner who has long lived in Cuba, this is a man who has been a symbol of resistance and struggle for independence for his country and the Latin American region, and that nobody can question that,’ he told Prensa Latina.
About the importance of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution in Europe, he recalled how much the Caribbean island has helped, under the leadership of Fidel, many countries in the most difficult times.
The solidarity of Cuba is well known in America, and that’s why I know that at the moment there is shared emotion among the people because of Fidel’s death,’ he said.
The French diplomat went to the Cuban embassy in Paris to write a message in the book of condolences, opened after the death, on Friday, November 25th, of the Commander, as the Cubans call him.
‘I came here because of respect for a man who so marked my generation, marked the Cuban people, French-Cuban relationships, Latin America and the world,’ he stated.
