France calls for a May Day in solidarity with Cuba

Paris, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba Si France association called in Paris on Sunday to turn May Day, International Workers’ Day, into a day for solidarity with Cuba and its people, who have been resisting the tightening of US blockade.

The association, founded in 1991 to accompany Cuba in its defense of the right to sovereignty, called its campaign ‘Muguet of Solidarity,’ based on a tradition that makes this flower of the lily family, also known as Lily of the Valley, dominates the streets and markets in France on May Day.

‘Which is the country that for more than 50 years has sent not troops but tens of thousands of doctors to the most distant and inhospitable places worldwide to face all kinds of health catastrophes? This is Cuba!’ the association stated in the call, to which Prensa Latina had access.

Cuba Si France recalled that Cuba has suffered for 60 years the US blockade, which it described as a genocide, as it has prevented the country from developing and purchasing essential medicines to treat serious diseases, including those that affect children.

In this sense, the association warned that Cuba is currently fighting a double problem, because, like the rest of the nations, the Caribbean island is currently fighting the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus.

That is why, we invite to celebrate a special May Day, marked by support for a people who are an example of humanism and international solidarity, it noted.
