Food Security, More Than Necessary for Cuba

By Livia Rodriguez Delis Havana, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) Achieving food security continues to be an unavoidable challenge for Cuba, with authorities reinforcing government policies to achieve this goal.

In this sense, the Cuban government rigorously monitors the country’s food program, one of the priorities of the Caribbean nation.

This work strategy persists even though the island recently received praise from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its efforts to guarantee, despite the United States’ blockade, the availability of food, people’s access to it and its biological use.

Likewise, the issue of food production is almost permanent in the meetings of the Council of Ministers, headed by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and its analyses are published in the Cuban press for the knowledge of all Cubans.

Similarly, high-ranking authorities of the Caribbean nation frequently visit scientific and productive poles throughout the country with the aim of assessing the progress of this sector.

On Friday, in the western province of Mayabeque, the Second Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, urged the expansion of food production.

After a tour of agricultural centers in Batabano, Güines, Melena del Sur and Santa Cruz del Norte, the Cuban leader stressed the importance of making the most of the land.
