If fly fishing Cuba is on your bucket list, you are now officially in luck.
Fly fishing cuba has been a dream destination of thousands of anglers since Hemingway owned a home just outside of Havana. However, no Americans have been able to set foot there as tourists for a long time. Since American-Cuban relations are now seemingly on the mend, things are changing. As a matter of fact, Orvis is going to start guiding there this year.
“There’s few places out there where the resource has been put first and foremost, and when that happens the fishing is excellent and Cuba’s a perfect example of that,” said Simon Perkins, Orvis’ senior manager of adventures and hunting in an interview.
Fishing is not the only things these lucky clients will get to enjoy. As part of the package deal, visits to the main part of island to experience music, culture, and food is included.
“They are the symbol of fly fishing in the whole world,” said Felipe Rodríguez Alonso, a local Cuban fly fishing guide in regards to Orvis fishing in home waters. “To have them here, their clients, their anglers. It’s a way for us to learn more about the fishing and the conservation. At the same time they have the top of the technology.”
The area where Orvis will be taking fisherman only allows eight total fisherman at one time in the over one million acre park. Ciénaga de Zapata National Park is one of most pristine places on the planet to chase saltwater fish and Cuba makes sure it stays that way.
So what do you think? Do you want to take Orvis up on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
