Five Cuban boxers qualified to World Cup

torneo-boxeovenezHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (acn) Cuba had a perfect day by reaching five seats from possible five in the first quarterfinal date of the world cup qualifying boxing tournament based in the Venezuelan state of Vargas.

The berths were achieved by the lightweight Lazaro Alvarez, light heavyweight Julio Cesar La Cruz, super heavyweight Leinier Peró, flyweight Yosbany Veitia and welterweight Roniel Iglesias.

The first suffered against the Dominican Leonel de los Santos, but did enough to defeat him 2-1 (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

On Friday, in the next round, his opponent will be the Colombian Ceiber Avila, who beat 3-0 American Richard Venegas .
