Pinar del Río, Cuba, July 22 ( Prensa Latina) Specialized construction brigades build a solar photovoltaic park on the outside of this Cuban western city, the first of the province in which solar panels locally manufactured will work, said local experts. The experts pointed today. that modules, capable of withstanding winds up 160 kilometers per hour are obtained here at the Ernesto Guevara Electronic Components Factory , the only resort of its kind in Cuba, specialist Efren Marcos Espinosa confirmed to the press Tuesday.
According to the work schedule the park should be completed in 2016 and is currently at 27 percent of its complete construction, around a community known as Cayo Cana.
The solar park will have a capacity of 2.5 Megawatts and is part of the efforts to diversify the Cuban Electrical Union generation sources, reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and reduce air pollution, he said.
Once it gets operational in daytime, it can connect to the electro-energy system of the country.
Located 140 kilometers west of Havana,Pinar del Río makes solar panels destined for the rest of the island and other nations.
