Havana, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Sunday recalled the speech given by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the United Nations Earth Summit in June 1992.
‘If we want to save humanity from this self-destruction, wealth and available technologies must be distributed better throughout the planet. Less luxury and less waste in a few countries would mean less poverty and hunger in much of the world,’ Rodriguez wrote on his Twitter account.
The phrase is accompanied by a photo of the revolutionary leader during his speech in Rio de Janeiro on June 12, 1992.
On that occasion, Fidel Castro said, ‘An important biological species – humankind – is at risk of disappearing due to the rapid and progressive elimination of its natural habitat.’
