Havana, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Wednesday that US President Donald Trump’s executive order against Venezuela is illegitimate and violates international law.
The United States, faced with the obvious failure of its attempt to ‘change the regime,’ is trying, through economic pressure, to break the resistance of the Venezuelan and Chavista people, Rodriguez tweeted.
The Cuban Foreign Minister added that the measure, which extends the sanctions imposed against the South American country to a total economic blockade, ‘will not work.’
Trump signed an executive order on Monday freezing all assets of the Venezuelan government and banning transactions with that government unless under specific exemptions.
The White House confirmed the measure that allows the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to impose sanctions against people who support the Maduro Executive, which Washington describes as illegitimate despite the fact that the President was reelected in 2018 with 68% of the vote.
It also restricts the entry of sanctioned persons into the United States.
According to the order, all assets and property interests owned by the Venezuelan government located in the United States, or in the power or control of any American, are frozen and cannot be transferred, paid for, exported, withdrawn or traded in any other way.
