Havana, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) Equity and solidarity will be focused on the Americas’ regional activities on World Health Day, held every April 7, announced PAHO / WHO directors, organizations that lead this campaign.
For the second year in a row, the motto of the day is ‘Universal Health: for everyone, everywhere,’ with emphasis on what each person can do to take care of their own health, José Luis Di Fabio,representative of the Pan American and World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Cuba, said at a press conference.
Actions by all sectors of society are essential to address poverty, social injustice, as well as education deficit and unhealthy housing, factors that influence the health status of people, said Di Fabio.
In this sense, he stressed the need for everyone to have access, without any discrimination, to quality integral health services when and where they need them, without having to face financial difficulties.
The implementation of policies and actions with a multisectoral approach is fundamental then to address the social determinants of health and promote the commitment of people, in order to promote general well-being, emphasized the representative of PAHO/WHO in Cuba.
This year in particular will be an opportunity for the Caribbean island to demonstrate to the world the lessons learned and good practices developed, in benefit of Cuban health, having as a principle, primary care.
Celebrations in Cuba will include training and recreational festivals as multidisciplinary spaces to receive primary care, explained Miriam Valdés, director of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Unit of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.
Since 1948, April 7 was established as World Health Day, marking the foundation of WHO and to encourage governments of member states to work for the benefit of the population.
