Ecuadorian government asked to purchase interferon from Cuba

Quito, March 17 (Prensa Latina) The Communist Party of Ecuador on Tuesday demanded the government to make every effort to acquire the recombinant Alpha 2B, a drug produced in Cuba, which has proven effective in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

The political party pointed out that the request is made under the protection of Article 358 of the Constitution, according to which the national health system shall have as its purpose the development, protection and recovery of the capacities and potentialities for a healthy and integral life, both individual and collective, and shall recognize social and cultural diversity.

It also indicates that the system will be guided by the general principles of the national system of social inclusion and equity, and by those of bioethics, sufficiency and interculturality, with a gender and generational approach.

According to the group in an official statement, the provisions of that and subsequent articles are mandatory and immediate.

In the text, the Communist Party of Ecuador also demanded the reestablishment of Cuban medical collaboration in this South American country, as well as the return of the brigade of specialists in that sector, whom it considered highly qualified professionals and whose contracts, it said, ‘were terminated in an untimely and illegal manner.’

‘In the face of the world panic, Cuban medical science shines once again, in spite of the international campaigns and the blockades of the US empire,’ the document stated.

Up to this day, there are 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ecuador and two reported deaths from that cause, while 451 people are part of the active epidemiological fence and 51 completed the period of surveillance and control.
