DOT okays FedEx’s request for Cuba route launch extension

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has granted FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int’l) an extension on its Cuba service start-up date following a petition filed earlier this month.

In its ruling granting relief, the DOT okayed a delayed launch deadline of October 15, 2017, for FedEx to inaugurate its proposed Monday-Friday Miami Int’l-Varadero/Matanzas, Cuba, service.

As previously reported, the US logistics specialist justified its request on the grounds that it had encountered various obstacles in initiating service between the United States and Cuba including the Cuban market’s “emergent nature” as well as unspecified “Cuban regulatory complexities”.
