Digital TV has reached Cuba’s 15 provincial capitals, Xinhua reports. Digital TV is also present in other large urban areas across the country. The current coverage of digital TV reaches nearly 5 million people.

By 2021, the analog signal will be switched off by the government, according to the report. Total investment for the implementation of digital TV in the country reached CUC 10.5 million.

The implementation of digital TV in Cuba started in 2013 when tests were performed successfully in Havana using the Chinese Digital Terrestrial Broadcast (DTMB) standard with equipment donated by the Chinese government.
