Diaz-Canel highlights 73 years of relations between Cuba and UNESCO

Havana,  (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday highlighted the 73 years of relations between Cuba and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The head of State recalled on his Twitter account that Cuba ratifies its commitment to that international organization with which there is a ‘historic relationship’.

He recalled that in more than seven decades of relations, many programs and projects have been created together.

Cuban Ambassador at UNESCO Yahima Esquivel issued a declaration on Saturday, on the occasion of the anniversary, about the ties between UNESCO and Cuba since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.

Esquivel noted that Cuban leader Fidel Castro, at a meeting of the UNESCO Executive Council in March 1995, ratified the full identification of Cuba’s social project with the foundational ideals of the specialized UN agency.

Since then, UNESCO has been a space to publicize Cuba’s achievements and progress in education, culture, science and communications, the diplomat added.
