Cuba’s Havana World Music Festival Promotes Gender Equality

Eme Alfonso, artistic director of the Havana World Music Festival.Telesur | March 25, 2017 — UNiTE is a U.N. campaign aimed at putting an end to gender-based violence and raising awareness about the plight of women and girls around the world.

The Havana World Music Festival will celebrate “Orange Day” Saturday in support of the campaign promoted by the United Nations against gender violence.

The announcement was made by the artistic director of the event and member of the Artist’s Network UNiTE, Eme Alfonso, in charge of promoting actions in favor of gender equality.

Sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and the National Center of Popular Music, attendees of the festival were invited to wear orange in support of ending violence against women and girls.
