Cubans and Dominicans Pay Tribute to Founding Fathers

Santo Domingo, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Cuban Embassy in the Dominican Republic, members of the Solidarity Campaign and government personalities laid today a wreath at the Patriots’ Altar in this capital.

The offering to pay tribute to the Fathers of the Dominican Homeland in the place where their remains rest, was held during the celebrations on the 20th anniversary of the resumption of relations between Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

At the event, the Cuban ambassador evoked Dominican history, its struggles for independence and the role played by Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco del Rosario Sanchez and Matias Ramon Mella.

He also highlighted that the Cuban youths who attacked the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, led by the Historic Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, marked a turning point in recent Cuban history, as did the Dominicans for their independence in 1844.

Finally, he pointed out, ‘When we commemorate today 20 years of the resumption of relations between our countries, those of us who have the responsibility to work to strengthen them will continue to spread the knowledge of common history to future generations, because education and culture play a fundamental role in that purpose.’

The Cuban ambassador presided over the event along with the deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs and Education, Vinicio Tobal and Luis de Leon, respectively.
