Cuban youths join the battle against Covid-19

Havana, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of young people are working today in Cuba as volunteers in isolation centers for people suspected of being infected with the new coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

Most of them are students and university professors who left aside the option of staying home without the risk of becoming infected in order to support health workers in duties such as cleaning the institutions where possible infections are found.

One of the places where Covid-19’s potential patients are housed is the University of Computer Science (UCI), 25 kilometers southwest of central Havana, where there are 500 patients.

A total of 21 other facilities from higher education are in operation to support the isolation measures indicated by the Cuban government, and 11 university centers are getting ready to receive other people, if necessary, says a report from Cuban television.

The Public Health Ministry reported on Friday 61 new cases of the disease, for a total of 923 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

For clinical-epidemiological surveillance, 2,734 people have been admitted and another 7,373 remain in their homes, where they are being followed up by the Primary Health Care, informed the health authorities.
