Havana, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) The president of the University Student Federation (FEU), Jennifer Bello, expressed today the commitment of the Cuban youth to the work of the Revolution, on the occasion of Revolutionary Armed Forces Day (FAR).
The data, that this time commemorates the 60th anniversary of the uprising of Santiago de Cuba and the landing of the Granma yacht on Cuban shores, was celebrated with a military and popular parade in the capital’s Plaza de la Revolución José Martí.
In the central words of the ceremony, chaired by President Raúl Castro, Bello stressed that this year there are special motivations to reaffirm the desire to continue the work begun 58 years ago by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, who died last November.
Referring to the process of normalization of relations initiated by Cuba and the United States, as a result of the heroic resistance of the Cuban people and loyalty to their ideals and history, she said that the island will not stop demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by that northern power more than half a century ago. More than 50,000 young people from the capital and western provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque, and representing their student and political organizations, participated in the event, which evoked milestones of the Cuban battle for its sovereignty and independence throughout its history.
The youth protagonism was also present in the blocks of the institutes of military education and the different components of the FAR and the Ministry of Interior that marched in front of the tribune, before the one of popular manifestation of support to the Revolution.
