Cuban President Arrives in Margarita Island for NAM Summit

Margarita Island, Venezuela Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Raul Castro arrived today in Venezuela to participate in the 17th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Raul Castro was welcomed at the airport General in Chief Santiago Mariño, in the state of Nueva Esparta, by Vice President Aristobulo Isturiz, Tourism Minister Marleny Contreras, Mining Development Minister Roberto Mirabal and Cuban ambassador Rogelio Polanco.

Cuba is one of the four Latin American countries that has chaired the NAM.

Yeaterday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez encouraged to defend peace and NAM’s historic merits and highlighted the efforts by the authority in defense of the sovereignty of the member countries.

About assumption by Venezuela of the NAM presidency, Rodriguez asserted that it represented victory by the Bolivarian people and Government.
