Santa Clara, Cuba, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel participated today in a meeting at ”Marta Abreu” University of Las Villas and appraised preparations for the new school year in the central province of Villa Clara.
During the meeting, Diaz-Canel, education directors and authorities of the territory analyzed issues associated with the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year in its different teachings.
According to official data, more than 240,000 students are expected to start studying at Cuban universities on September 3.
As part of his working visit to Villa Clara, the head of State toured the Santa Clara Telephone Center, part of which was destroyed by fire on June 25.
The president participated yesterday in several debates on the draft of a new Constitution which was approved on July 22 by the People’s Power National Assembly.
Diaz-Canel praised the quality of interventions and said they demonstrate the diversity of the population’s criteria, as well as the commitment assumed by citizens with this political process.
About 135,000 meetings are planned up to November 15 to debate on the proposed new Constitution that, if approved, would replace the current on in force since 1976.
Since he took office in April, Diaz-Canel has been carrying out working visits to Cuban provinces, where he has shown interest on how they have been recovering from the destructive effects of Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
