Cuban Parliament commissions begin three days of sessions

Havana, Cuba, Jul 4.- Faced with an economic scenario that requires eliminating unnecessary costs and taking advantage of reserves in savings and efficiency, the 10 standing committees of the National Assembly of People’s Power will examine today strategic issues, as a prelude to the Seventh Regular Session of the Eighth Legislature.

The deputies will meet to receive updated information on the nation´s major plans from ministers and head of governmental entities and will forward them the concerns of the population, in order to find ways to solve them.

During these days the lawmakers, gathered at the Havana´s Conventions Center, will discuss the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, approved in the Seventh Congress of the Communist Party, held in April.


Members of the Industry, Construction and Energy commissions will review the housing program, current situation of the local production of construction materials, and the meeting of legal provisions on the granting of state-owned idle pieces of land for the building of houses by the people that need them.

They will also learn about the measures taken by the Cuban Water Resources Institute to address the drought, as well of the investments made in this field.

Another topic will be the status of investments made in the energy generation sector, and the development and exploitation of renewable sources of energy.

Health deputy Minister José Ángel Portal will explain how Cuba is fighting mosquito-borne diseases, like Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya, that have created a difficult epidemiologic situation all over the Americas.

Among the other topics to be debated are public transportation, social indiscipline and illegalities, private ownership and the impact of the measures to improve the purchasing power of the Cuban peso. (acn)
