Santo Domingo, May 1 (Prensa Latina) The Olympic champion in 2008, the runner-up in 2004 and three times world champion in the hammer, Yipsi Moreno, is supervising part of the Cuban athletics team that is training in the Dominican Republic.
Moreno, who was recently elected a member of the Council of State, and the delegation accompanying her, are reviewing the work at the training base of the Cuban team, and met with the presidents of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Luis Mejía, and the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations, Gerardo Suero.
She was also received by Cuban Ambassador Carlos Jesús de la Nuez, who welcomed her in this territory and explained the status of bilateral relations. Moreno briefed de la Nuez about Cuban athletics, the work that is being done and the prospects.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the former athlete explained that the athletics delegation is training in to groups: one in the Dominican Republic and the other one in Mexico, because the tracks in which they train in Cuba are being repaired, and due to the proximity of the Central American and Caribbean Games, it is important to train hard.
On the results of her visit, the methodologist of the National Athletics Commission stated that the welcome provided by Dominican officials has been excellent, they talked about the development of sports of the two countries, and everything seems to indicate that there will be another training base prior to the Central American Games, including a high-level competition.
