Cuban Minister Denounces US Law of the Stick

Havana, May 3 (Latin Press) Cuban Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca has denounced on Friday new US hostile measures against his country and highlighted Washington”s international isolation.

‘Rejection of the Law of the Stick is broad and worldwide. Only some in the United States do not understand it. There is no fear in Cuba,’ the official wrote in his Twitter account in reference to the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

This section allows US nationals and companies to file lawsuits in US courts against Cuban individuals and enterprises and also frm third countries who invest in Cuban territory in properties nationalized after the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.

In this regard, Malmierca highlighted criticisms made on Thursday by the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Policy and Defence, Federica Mogherini, who warned Washington about the consequences of its punitive measure.

Mogherini announced that the bloc will use ‘all appropriate measures,’ which includes bringing the case before the World Trade Organization.

The Cuban head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment questioned the first lawsuits filed affecting Carnival Cruise Lines.

Someone came out in Miami claiming Cuban ports; ‘we will see where they reach, but as President Miguel Diaz-Canel said: This will not stop Cubans from marching forward,’ Malmierca pointed out.
