Havana, Dec 6 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban documentary ‘A media voz’ (In a Whisper) awarded at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam, is today competing in the 41st edition of Havana’s International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.
Directed by Cuban filmmakers Heidi Hassan and Patricia Perez, the film won the award for Best Feature-Length Documentary at the prestigious event in Amsterdam, which was held from November 20 to December 1.
The jury described the work as ‘A refreshing expression of womanhood; an ode to loss; a celebration of friendship, will, and vulnerability; a reclaiming of hope and passion; and a piercingly honest cinematic dialogue are all embodied in this magical, original, and risk-taking cinematic endeavor.’
According to Cuban critic Joel Rodriguez, the film’s story is closely related to the lives of both filmmakers, who graduated from the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.
‘In a Whisper,’ he notes, starts with archive VHS footage and photographs on childhood and the shared memories that built an indissoluble friendship, over time, despite the distance.
The specialized Cineuropa website describes the film as ‘a touching story about friendship, affection, homesickness and the characters’ lifelong love of filmmaking. It is a sincere heart-to-heart reflection on the value of our aspirations, our need to follow our passions and our constant search for love.’
The film features the production of Daniel Froiz for Matriuska Producciones (Spain) and Delphine Schmidt for Perspective Films (France), in cooperation with PCT Cinema-Television SA (Switzerland) and Producciones de la 5th Avenida (Cuba).
