Cuban doctors boost epidemiological campaign in Zulia, Venezuela

Caracas, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) With the support of Cuban medical brigade Ernesto Che Guevara, the Venezuelan government is today conducting an epidemiological campaign in Maracaibo, Zulia state, following the detection of an outbreak of Covid-19 in a market.

According to Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, a team of more than 80 doctors from the island is deployed in the region to help with the inspection and control of Las Pulgas market.

She noted that doctors are deployed to conduct house-to-house searches to deal with possible cases of the new coronavirus.

Late in May, the Presidential Commission for the Prevention of Covid-19 detected an outbreak of infection in that area as part of the commercial corridor that begins in the town of Maicao, Colombia, which is why the market was closed until the outbreak is completely and definitively eliminated.

Another cause of disease transmission in the border state of Zulia is due to the entry of people through the trails, violating the legal pass where the epidemiological protocols are met, said Rodriguez.

Given this scenario, the nationals who enter the state, besides the 14-day quarantine, must comply with other gradual stays until they reach 17 and 20 days in the Units for Comprehensive Social Care (PASI) located in the municipalities of Guajira, Mara and Jesus Maria Semprun, in that region.

Last Thursday, the Vice President of the National Constituent Assembly, Tania Diaz, thanked the Cuban doctors for their collaboration and stressed that without their action Venezuela would not have the positive results it has achieved in controlling and dealing with the pandemic.
