HAVANA, Dec 9 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA)–The International New Latin American Movie Festival in its 2016 edition includes several of the great Cuban classic films, and this time, with a renewed image coming with the restoration.
The 2016 edition’s program out of competition is formed by four iconic films: ‘Memorias del Subdesarrollo’, Los Sobrevivientes’, ‘Una Pelea Cubana contra los Demonios’ and ‘ Retrato de Teresa’.
Luciano Castillo, director of the Cinema House of Cuba (Cinemateca), there will be a section called Clasicos Restaurados (Restored Classics) showing these restored films.
The program comprises two other works by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titon), one of the most important directors of the Latin American cinema.
Recently, the Cinema House of Cuba revived a project promoted for several years by the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences in Hollywood in order to restore the negatives of other two titles by Titon: Una Pelea Cubana contra Los Demonios (1971) and Los Sobrevivientes (1978).
In addition, the exhibition of Retrato de Teresa by Pastor Vega – another iconic director of the Cuban cinema-, a brand new copy processed by Labodigital (Mexico), said Castillo.
All of them were the subject of a long and rigorous process of restoration, said the director of the Cinema House of Cuba, in the Bulletin of the Festival of Havana.
‘Our cardinal purpose is to call attention to the importance of undertaking actions to prevent the irreparable loss of the acquis treasured by cinema houses of the region’, he added.
On December 11 there will be a colloquium on restoration of films and documentaries with the participation of prestigious artists and specialists. Spanish Jose Maria Prado, Italian Cecilia Cenciarelli, US Josef Lindner and Colombian Juana Suárez are among them.
The Cinema House is developing restoration projects with the French Audiovisual National Institute and with the Movie Department of the University of Los Angeles.–NNN-PRENSA LATINA
