Cuban business delegation makes rounds in Texas

A Cuban delegation is attending workshops across Texas, including Houston, as part of it’s U.S. business tour through Feb. 3.

On Sunday, high-ranking Cuban representatives overseeing development of the country’s Port Mariel met with the chair of Port Houston and her team at the Bayport container terminal where they toured the facility and sat through a presentation on the city’s port systems.

“They’re anxious to begin trade with Houston,” said Ricky Kunz, chief commercial officer for Port Houston.

The meeting, organized by the Texas Cuba Trade Alliance group, was followed by travel to Austin where the delegation attended a workshop on business ties between the two countries that can be formed under current legislation.

The delegation will attend a similar workshop on Tuesday in Houston, co-sponsored by the Greater Houston Partnership, Texas A&M University, the Houston Bar Association and the International Transportation Management Association.
