Santo Domingo, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The US blockade against Cuba must cease, as it is illegal, illegitimate and genocidal, stated the island’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Milagros Carina Soto.
Interviewed by Prensa Latina, a few hours prior to the UN General Assembly vote on a resolution calling for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed six decades ago by the northern nation, Soto expressed that this policy has intensified during the last year.
‘It is estimated that our country lost more than four billion dollars between March 2018 and March 2019, but if we take into account that since April new measures have been established to tighten the blockade, the figure accumulated during almost 60 years exceeds 138 billion dollars,’ she explained.
The ambassador said the measures of the last few months not only intend to harm the Cuban people once again, but are also of an extraterritorial nature, as they prevent financial transactions with Cuba and, for example, the use of Cubana de Aviacion by Cubans and Dominicans for their travel, by prohibiting the leasing of airplanes with US components to the Cuban airline.
However, she emphasized, ‘I want to ratify that Cuba will resist and will win and continue its development because the spirit of our people and the solidarity of the world are going to make that possible.’
