Baku, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alfredo Nieves Portuondo highlighted the favorable state of bilateral relations and cooperation in biotechnology, medicine and tourism, during an interview with local media, diplomatic sources said on Sunday.
In statements to the AzVision.az website, Nieves Portuondo addressed the common areas to increase commercial cooperation, the development of biotechnology, medicine and tourism, as well as the United States economic and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.
On the occasion of Cuba’s National Day, the diplomat highlighted the favorable state of relations between Azerbaijan and Cuba, and recalled the meeting held in October 2019 between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Cuban peer, Miguel Diaz-Canel.
Nieves Portuondo also stressed that seeking ways to increase exchange in biotechnology and medicine, education and tourism, will contribute to further improve trade.
The ambassador explained the actions taken to promote commercial and tourist events in Cuba and the Caribbean island’s participation in international fairs in Azerbaijan.
During the interview and in response to three questions from journalist Parvana Sultanova, the ambassador condemned the US economic and financial blockade against his country.
He also rejected the enforcement of Title III of Helms-Burton Act, the restrictions on US citizens traveling to Cuba and other aggressions led by Washington.
The diplomat stressed that Cuba received the strongest solidarity and support from most nations during the condemnation of the blockade at United Nations in November 2019.
