San Salvador, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuba won 3-0 the U-21 men Continental Championship of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA), after defeating Canada in a game played in El Salvador. With this victory (29-27, 25-21, 25-21) the Caribbean nation gets its fifth title in the history of Continental Championship (2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008) that took place at the Palace of Sports in San Salvador on Sunday night.
The United States team, which finished third on this occasion, had won the two previous editions.
When advancing to the final, Cuba and Canada had already secured tickets for the Volleyball World Championship 2015 to be held in Mexico.
On the match of this Sunday, Osmani Uriarte and Abraham Alfonso managed to score 20 and 15 points, respectively; while Osniel Rendon contributed with 10 points, so they were more offensive attackers for the Cuban team.
For Canada, Blake Scheenrhorn scored 11 points, while Ryan Nickifor and Jeffrey Ardon scored nine and eight.
The captain of the Cuban team, Ricardo Calvo, was the Must Valuable Player of the NORCECA Continental Championship Under 21, and also the Best Setter of the tournament.
In the All-Star team were also recognized, the Cuban Osmani Uriarte as Best Forward and his companions Abraham Alfonso (Best Service) and Luis Soza (Best Second Block).
The Best Scorer of the tournament was Samuel Valdez from El Salvador, who also won the Best Opposite Attacker; Best Spiker, followed by the Canadian Brandon Koppers.
Juan Napky, from Honduras, was the Best Libero, Best Digger and Best Receiver.
Puerto Rico finished fourth and El Salvador ranked fifth after beating Barbados.
