Cuba to Host Inter-American Stem Cell Conference

Havana, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will host soon the 1st Inter-American Stem Cell Conference, in which Cubans specialists will share experiences with leading researchers from the United States, said Dr. Consuelo Macias, president of the Organizing Committee.

Macias, director of the Institute of Hematology and Immunology (IHI) told the Prensa Latina news agency that the meeting will be held on October 13th and 14th at the Havana’s Conference Center, with the participation of specialists from various countries, but mainly from the United States.

Macias said that the event is organized by IHI along with the Cuban Society of Hematology and the US company Regenestem.

Macias, also president of the Clinical section of the Cuban Society of Immunology, said that the meeting will be attended by some 100 Cuban specialists and more than 70 ones from the United States.

Amid US specialists to participate in the event are Anthony Atala, director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University (North Carolina), and Robert Nerem, emeritus professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the School of Mechanical Engineering and Production of Stem Cells, among other scholars and researchers of international renown, said Macias.
