Dakar, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Senegalese authorities announced Saturady the first-ever Senegalese film week in Havana, to be held from October 23-27.
The announcement of the exhibition was made after exchanged between the Cuban Ambassador in Dakar, Saylin Sanchez Portero, and Hugues Diaz, director of Cinematography of Senegal’s Ministry of Culture and Communication.
With its venue at the Havana Rampa cinema, the event will pay tribute to the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Caribbean nation and Senegal, and the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
The visit to Cuba by the African country’s delegation will allow the two sides to explore the potential for the signing of a collaboration agreement in this sphere and will contribute to the strengthening of the cultural ties that unite these two nations.
On previous occasions, Cuban cinema has played a leading role in cultural weeks in Senegal, and ICAIC’s invitation seeks to bring the island’s public closer to the film productions of that country, where there is a growing movement of women directors and films that portray its social reality.
