Matanzas, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) The head of diving competitions for the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Swimming, Khaty Seaman, emphasized that the host of the children and junior Pan-American Championship of the sport, to be held in Matanzas, Cuba, from October 8 to 11, to be well organized.
The event will take as a stage the swimming pool of the Luis Augusto Turcios Lima Sports Beginner School (EIDE) in this city, 100 kilometers east of Havana.
“It is fantastic and it has all that it needs for a competition of the first level”, said the official, who represented her country, Canada, in the Olympic Games of 1972 in Munich, Germany, as a diver.
In opinion of Seaman, the school has conditions and facility in its infrastructure to carry a juvenile world cup out, and it included the good weather in the island as another agreeable condition.
The competitors will compete, from tomorrow onwards, in the categories of 11 years (D), 12-13 (C), 14-15 (B) and 16-18 (A), in one and three meters springboard, and in platform from three to 10 meters, in dependence of the group to which they belong.
Lino Socorro, main trainer of the major Cuban team, thought that the fight will have a high competitive quality, with the presence of athletes athletes of high status in spite of being still junior.
“Canada, Mexico and the United States came with their best exponents, and for Cuba it constitutes an expectation to see how their athletes are in these ages”, he stood out.
Socorro talked the support they got from the Canadian Federation as for equipment, and the works of repair of the sports facilities.
The program of the regional tournament will initiate this Thursday with the discussion of the medals between the males, in the categories A, B and C in springboard of 3 meters, one meter, and platform, respectively.
Females will do it in the categories B, D and A, in platform, three meters springboard and springboard of one meter, in this order.
