Cuba thanks US, Canada initiatives against blockade

Havana, Mar 1 (Prensa Latina) On behalf of the country, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday thanked the Bridges of Love initiative that gathered caravans of activists against the blockade in the United States and Canada.

On his Twitter account, the president stressed that Cuban emigrants and friends called for an end to the US blockade against the Caribbean nation in eight US cities. ‘Cuba admires, thanks and embraces them,’ the head of State added in his publication.

In Miami, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Minneapolis, Ottawa and Montreal, groups of demonstrators spoke out on Sunday against Washington’s policies affecting the Cuban population.

Activists in both countries called to ‘build bridges of love between the Cuban and US peoples’, in continuity with the caravans organized for several years in Miami by the Alianza Martiana Coalition.

In addition to demanding an end to Washington’s extraterritorial policy, the caravan members supported the work of Cuban doctors and backed international petitions to grant the Nobel Peace Prize to Cuba’s Henry Reeve Medical Contingent.
