Cuba supports UN General Assembly's guiding role

United Nations, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba reaffirmed on Tuesday at the United Nations its support for strengthening the guiding role of the General Assembly, in its capacity as the main regulatory, deliberative, policy-making and representative body of the multilateral organization.

In the opening session of the Special Committee on the UN Charter, Cuba’s alternate permanent representative to the United Nations, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, also invited to engage in a constructive and genuine dialogue that allows progress on long-standing issues included in the body’s agenda.

Likewise, she expressed the relevance of the annual sessions of the Committee on the Charter that are confirmed in an international context in which some countries repeatedly attempt to impose reinterpretations of the principles and purposes of the guiding document.

All of this, she stressed, in order to promote interventionist political agendas, to the detriment of the integrity and sovereignty of developing countries, and in flagrant violation of the principles of international law.
