Cuba Strengthens Health System Despite Blockade, Cuban Minister Says

Havana, Mar 28 (Prensa Latina) Despite the U.S. blockade, Cuba continues to strengthen its National Health System, stated Thursday the Cuban Minister of the sector , Jose Angel Portal.

That fact is materialized in terms of improving the quality of life of its citizens, said Portal in a message published in Twitter.

The Cuban Health Minister made this statement in reference to the new technology that multiplies the ability to detect viruses, bacteria and parasites, which became operational in the central province of Villa Clara.

It is a modern nucleic acid processing equipment, capable of extracting the genome from 96 samples at the same time in only 140 minutes, a figure much higher than the previous method, which allowed 12 samples to be processed in just over an hour, an official from that territory told Granma newspaper.

With this technique, which only existed at the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine in Havana, patients can receive more timely and reliable treatment, added Maria de Lourdes Sanchez, Head of the Microbiology Department of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Having this inventiveness will guarantee the strictest control of outbreaks and epidemics such as zika, dengue, chikungunya or sexually transmitted diseases, among others, she stressed.
