Havana, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) Scoring more wins than last year and rising the quality of young athletes are the main goals of the Cuban baseball team which will play in the Can-Am Independent League, in Canada, and also play a friendly series in the United States.
The Cuban baseball team’s coach, Roger Machado, was upbeat about the fulfillment of these goals and told the Cuban media, gathered at the Latinoamericano Ballpark, that players has had a very short training. Machado highlighted the preparatory games and results carried out against Havana’s Industriales baseball team, as well as the overall work to select the 27 ballplayers for playing in Canada and the United States.
‘We are very happy with the team. It is quite competitive, with good control pitchers who have strong arms to pitch with not enough rest time,’ Machado said.
The RHP Vladimir Banos, RHP Alain Sanchez, RHP Yosbel Jose Zulueta, LHP Yoannis Yera, and LHP Ulfrido Garcia will be the starting pitchers for the contest in Canada and USA .
According to Roger Machado, this new Cuban baseball team has more young players and can be more competitive than the one played in the 2016 Can-Am League.
The Cuban baseball team will play 21 games in the Can-Am League and then will play a five-game series against a US baseball team from July 2 through 7.
