Cuba Reports Record of Three Million Tourists

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Dec 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuba reached the record figure of three million tourists by the arrival of a group of Canadian to Jardines del Rey international airport in the northern coast of the central region of the island.

The Sunwing Airline flight with 188 visitors who arrived yesterday from the City of Ottawa to Cayo Coco, marked the figure this year, confirming the island as a major Caribbean tourist destination.

Jardines del Rey, with its main attractions in Coco and Guillermo Keys, is located on the northern coast of Ciego de Avila, about 480 kilometers from Havana, and has more than 6,000 rooms in 16 hotels.

Iyolexis Correa, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in the region, told Prensa Latina that several actions are undertaken with a view of the upcoming International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2015 dedicated to marine products, which will be held at Jardines del Rey.

The official said that as part of the market diversification recently resumed operations the Italian airline Blue Panorama, with a direct connection from the city of Milan.

She added that the main issuers of visitors are Canada, followed by the United Kingdom and Argentina, but also received for the first time this year tourists from Portugal.

For the current high season, both nautical and outdoor recreational options were created, besides improving the hotel industry and common and services areas, said Correa.
