Havana, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The Federation of Jewish Communities of Cuba and the Interfaith Platform of the island repudiated in this capital the attack at the end of October against a synagogue in the U.S. city of Pittsburgh, where 11 people died.
‘We who share in this noble land the daily task of building fraternal bridges from the various expressions of faith that cohabit fraternally and harmoniously, cannot remain indifferent to the criminal attack,’ they warned in a statement to which Prensa Latina had access on Tuesday.
The text describes as deplorable the attack committed on October 27 by a man at the beginning of a Shabbat service, and points out that it was ‘based exclusively on the intolerant xenophobia called anti-Semitism.’
‘This time they were Jews, tomorrow they could be Islamic, then Christians and there will always be a bloody tomorrow for many more, because we are part of humanity, to which we are all committed to defend and lead in true paths of peace,’ they stressed.
According to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Cuba and the Interreligious Platform, no one should remain impassive about the crime in Pittsburgh.
The religious organizations affirmed in the document that they join the grief of the families affected by the sensitive and irreparable losses.
Also the Cuban government, in the voice of its Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, reacted after the attack in the northern city.
‘I would like to express my condolences to the people and authorities of the city of Pittsburgh, the state of Pennsylvania and the United States, for the events that took place in the Tree of Life synagogue, where 11 people died,’ Rodriguez said last Thursday, before the General Assembly of the United Nations.
