Havana, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is currently preparing its hotel and non-hotel facilities for a possible reopening of tourism, after the Covid-19 pandemic is overcome, Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia said.
During a meeting of the temporary working group to fight the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, chaired by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the minister assured on Friday that this important economic sector is preparing its forces and resources to offer a safe and attractive destination.
Garcia stated that, once the country decides to resume tourist activities, a strict compliance with hygiene regulations and the quality of service will prevail.
Tourism is one of the hardest-hit sectors by Covid-19. Since the pandemic was detected in late March, the country’s hotel groups closed 75% of its establishments and most of its automotive and maritime fleet stopped working.
However, it did not mean the total stoppage of works. During these months, the tourist sector has developed intense investments and maintenance activities in all hotels and non-hotel establishments.
